Scandal is a single-vineyard, single-varietal, red Zinfandel wine from Dry Creek Valley.
Bill making a Zin? Now that is a scandal!
Zinfandel, a variety which Bill swore he would never make, is now subject to the same respectful winemaking as our high caliber Burgundy style wines.
Treating the Zin with the same caring protocols as our Pinot produced a beautiful Zinfandel wine with a very smooth, almost creamy mouth and mid-low alcohol.
Serving Temperature: 60°F- 65°F
In Sonoma's Dry Creek Valley, home to some of the oldest Zinfandel vines, the terroir produces wines with a scandalous peppery and spicy aroma and a deep jam and briar fruit character.
In 2017 we were asked to take over the farming of a highly regarded Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel vineyard to support the property owner, one of our Wine Club Members. Ideally located on a south-facing slope with well-drained clay loam soils the vineyard is now farmed to produce low-yield, high quality fruit to make our Scandal Zinfandel.
Conceptually we were only making this wine for one year - just to help out. We should never have let our club members taste it - now we have to make it every year and they want more every year.
Faced with this continuous demand from club members we needed more Zinfandel. Fortuitously one of the oldest head-pruned, dry-farmed Zinfandel vineyards in Dry Creek Valley came on the market so in 2022 we acquired Yoakim Bridge Winery and its eighty-plus year old Zinfandel vines.
Scandal ~ to defame or create offense, like Bill making a Zin. Now that is a scandal!
