Scandal Zinfandel 2018

Bill making a Zin? Now that is a scandal!

Our third vintage of Scandal Zinfandel this is now a single-vineyard, single-varietal expression of Zinfandel with the vineyard showing its own unique characteristics.

Scandal shows a fine balance between lush, ripe fruit and savory spice-pepper-cinnamon notes with hard-to-define floral undertones; a very drinkable, full bodied red wine.

Scandal - a Zinfandel made by a Bordeaux lover - what a Scandal!

Dry and not too high in alcohol, it offers a touch of spicy and peppery notes followed by a rich array of very ripe blackberries, blueberries and a little black pepper-cinnamon combination. Impressive on every level, from the smooth, rich tannin to the dryness and above all the depth and range of flavors. This beautiful Zinfandel should age well through 2025 if you can keep from drinking it before.
Like many Zinfandel vineyards in Dry Creek Valley this one contains tiny percentages of Petite Sirah and Shiraz. This varietal complexity seems to add a soft, sensual quality with a slightly broader flavor profile, bringing structure to the resulting wine which is still 99% Zinfandel. The soil here is not rich and the rocks keep the vines from being overly-aggressive. All this makes for an easy time in the winery. Dry Creek typically produces a powerful wine however we treat Scandal the same as Pinot and it shows in the drink-ability of this wine with a nice fresh acidity to counteract the lush fruit and very light oak background.
Matured in French oak for 12 months - 33% new, 33% one use, balance neutral.
Only 650 cases produced so when it's gone, it's gone! No allergens or animal products were used in the making of this wine.
