Wine Appreciation

Flavor - the culmination of your sensory inputs

Flavors we like are flavors that we have learned to like, so when presented with a wine we need to spend time to get to know it, to allow all our senses, sight, smell, taste, etc., to provide their inputs so that our brain can categorize its flavors and then we will understand why we like it, or not.

   Five Senses in Tasting Wine

Only when we know to pay attention to our individual sensory inputs can we make informed, educated decisions on our appreciation of a wine.

Everyone who enjoys wine realizes that the glass itself has a lot to do with our appreciation of the wine, but there's more . . . so this section provides a few contributing aspects to our personal appreciation of wine.

Aging Wine

Maturing wine in the cellar has been an important part of enjoying fine wines for centuries but only some quality wines will improve with age, developing greater complexity with new aromas and flavors while others may not.
