Cincinnati Chili

Made famous by Skyline Chili in Ohio, our Cincinnati Chili is full of Herbies spices and served on spaghetti with lots of toppings. This is an absolutely easy and delicious recipe.

Ingredients

  • olive oil  ·  1 tablespoon 
  • Herbies Garlic Powder Granulated  ·  1 teaspoon 
  • Herbies Chili Powder ~ Medium  ·  2 tablespoons 
  • Herbies Cloves ~ ground  ·  1 teaspoon 
  • Herbies Cinnamon Quills ~ ground  ·  2 teaspoons 
  • Herbies Oregano Leaves Australian, chopped  ·  1 tablespoon 
  • Herbies Pepper Cracked Asta Black  ·  1 teaspoon 
  • onions finely chopped  ·  2 
  • unsweetened chocolate  ·  1 ounce 
  • chicken broth  ·  2 cups 
  • tomato sauce  ·  16 ounces 
  • apple cider vinegar  ·  2 tablespoons 
  • tomato paste  ·  2 tablespoons 
  • brown sugar  ·  2 teaspoons 
  • Worcestershire sauce  ·  2 teaspoons 
  • Salt  ·  1 teaspoon 
  • ground beef (85/15)  ·  2 pounds 
  • For Serving  ·   
  • cooked spaghetti  ·   
  • shredded cheese  ·   
  • dark red kidney beans  ·   
  • finely chopped onions  ·   
  • oyster crackers  ·   

Instructions

  1. In a Dutch oven or large pot over medium-high heat, heat oil until shimmering. Cook onions until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in chocolate, garlic, chili powder, oregano, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  3. Add broth, tomato sauce, vinegar, tomato paste, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Stir in beef and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer until thickened, about 20 to 25 minutes.
  5. Season to taste with salt and pepper (I like 1 teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon pepper).
  6. Serve over cooked spaghetti with desired toppings such as cheese, beans, onions, and crackers.

Jenny's Tips: -

  • Cooking the chili a day in advance lets the spices settle into each other, giving you a rounder flavor.
  • Coney Dog: A hot dog smothered with Cincinnati Chili is just the thing. Top the dog and bun with cheese, mustard, onion, beans - whatever you like!
