Impulse is a left bank Bordeaux-style wine inspired by the wines of Château Margaux.

Château Margaux grows grapes on two hundred acres of vineyards in the Pauillac appellation in the Bordeaux wine region of France and is a left bank wine.

The chateau traces its heritage back to the original vineyard planted in 1580 and is one of only four to receive the highest rank of Premiers Cru status in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855 . The superior vintages are blended to the following general specification:

  • 87% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 8% Merlot
  • 3% Cabernet Franc
  • 2% Petit Verdot

Thomas Jefferson wrote of the1784 Margaux, “There cannot be a better bottle of Bordeaux wine.”

We created Impulse as an homage to Margaux.

Discussions with Bill about Bordeaux

Impulse ~ the compelling influence of a particular feeling

Why "Impulse" ~ In 1977 investor André Mentzelopoulos, acting on impulse, purchased Château Margaux at a time when Bordeaux wines were in serious economic crisis. André invested heavily without any hope of immediate return in a subdued market, however the 1978 vintage was immediately recognized as exceptional. Today Château Margaux continues experiencing unprecedented success.
