Masaman Beef Curry

Masaman Beef Curry Recipe is a sumptuous and very flavorful Thai dish. Using our pre-mixed herbs the whole recipe is quick and quite easy to make.

Ingredients

  • chuck steak trimmed and cubed  ·  1 1/2 pound 
  • peanut oil  ·  2 tablespoons 
  • Herbie's Masaman curry powder  ·  2 tablespoons 
  • coconut cream  ·  2 tablespoons 
  • Herbie's Candle Nut  ·  1 
  • large potato peeled and cubed  ·  1 
  • coconut milk  ·  1 cup 
  • chicken stock  ·  1 cup 
  • brown sugar  ·  2 tablespoons 
  • roasted unsalted peanuts  ·  1/2 cup 
  • salt  ·  1 teaspoon 

Instructions

Curry is a favorite dish in Thai restaurants throughout the world for good reason. Based on delicious fresh and dried herbs and spices, curry is unique and unlike any dish in Western cuisine.  Curry is an economical and healthy part of the Thai diet. High in vitamins and rich in protein, it is easily digested when eaten with rice as part of a Thai meal.

Massaman Beef Curry Recipe is a sumptuous and very flavorful Thai dish.  Using our pre mixed herbs the whole recipe is quick and quite easy to make.

DIRECTIONS  

Finely grate candle nut and brown gently in a dry pan and set aside.

Heat oil, add beef cubes and seal on all sides - remove to plate. 

Add coconut cream and curry powder to pan, heat one minute. 

Add beef with juices, candle nut, potato, coconut milk, stock, gula melaka and peanuts, and simmer, covered, for 90 minutes.  Remove lid and continue to simmer another 30 minutes until meat is tender and sauce is fairly thick.

Transfer to a serving bowl or on individual plates or bowls. Top with fresh coriander or basil plus some additional nuts if desired. Drizzle over a little coconut milk, and serve with steamed white rice or Thai Jasmine rice.

SUBSTITUTIONS  

Lamb and chicken can be substituted for the beef, and both meats make for a delicious Massaman curry.  Other vegetables that will work in this curry include eggplant, green beans, and tomato.
