Ingénue is a left bank Bordeaux-style wine inspired by the Pauillac wines of Château Mouton Rothschild.

Château Mouton Rothschild grows grapes on one hundred and eighty five acres of vineyards in the Pauillac appellation in the Bordeaux wine region of France and is a left bank wine.

Acquired by Rothschild in 1853 the chateau traces its heritage back to the original vineyard planted prior to 1720 and is the fifth Chateau to receive the highest rank of Premiers Cru status in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855 . The superior vintages are blended to the following general specification:

  • 89% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 9% Merlot
  • 2% Cabernet Franc

We created Ingénue as an homage to Mouton Rothschild..

Ingénue ~ a part played by an actress as an innocent or understudy.

Why "Ingénue" ~ Not chosen for the original list of Premier Cru Classé in 1855, Château Mouton Rothschild was the innocent young estate that deserved better recognition. In 1973 after a long fight by the original Baron's grandson Baron Philippe, Château Mouton Rothschild achieved the status of Premier Cru Classé (Classified First Growth) and the understudy, Mouton Rothschild, was finally called on stage.
