Rapture Pinot Noir 2019
A Pinot Noir resulting from warm summer days tempered by cool San Francisco Bay breezes to build complexity into a mouth-filling Pinot.
The name Rapture is indicative of being carried away by ecstasy in tasting this overwhelming Pinot Noir.
Instantly personable with hints of dark cherry and vanilla aroma over slightly earthy notes typical of Russian River Pinot. This wine could easily be mistaken for a meaty climat Burgundy.
In the mouth red fruits with flavors of plum and cherry. A nice acidity and tannin structure combine to make it broad in the mouth identifying it as a great food wine.
Only420 cases produced.
Making the 2019 Rapture Pinot Noir included 20% whole cluster, pre-fermentation maceration (cold soak) for five days then barrel fermented in neutral red French Oak barrels using native yeast followed by 11 months in French Oak Bourguigone barrels The result is a wine of finesse, with a deep crimson color.
The fruit came from the south block of our Russian River Valley, Vine Hill Vineyards planted with 100% Pommard clone of Pinot Noir. The final wine is our effort at a vins de cépage de Northern California, by incorporating a little blending of Dry Creek Valley fruit in the final wine, hence the Sonoma appellation on the label.
Following good winter rainfall and a cool spring, the 2019 summer growing season was near-perfect. Fortunately, the rain came when the flowers budded minimizing any shatter issues. The cool spring slowed down some of the fruit growth allowing the grapes time to develop and ripen, then the hotter August temperatures provided the right amount of stress at the right time for flavor development.
Fermented and matured in some new French oak with the majority being neutral Burgundy barrels.
