Amuse Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

Amuse is a blend that Bill changes for each vintage, creating our own unique terroir-driven wine from Bordeaux components that feels uniquely American — bold, flavorful, and easy to enjoy.

This 2023 vintage is bold yet polished, combining Cabernet’s classic structure with Malbec’s supple texture and aromatic depth—approachable now, with the backbone to age gracefully.

Rich, bold, and food-friendly Amuse is crafted to be both delicious on its own and perfectly suited to the foods we love here at home: barbecue, grilled steaks, burgers, short ribs, or a fully-loaded sausage and anchovy pizza, and everything in between.

Amuse in its Cabernet Sauvignon release is deep and expressive as the blend highlights the power of Cabernet Sauvignon with the plush generosity of Malbec.

This wine opens with expressive dark fruit—blackcurrant, ripe blackberry, and black cherry — driven by the Lake County Cabernet’s concentration and freshness. Chalk Hill Cabernet adds a subtle lift of red plum, cocoa powder, and graphite, bringing elegance and structure to the core.

The Alexander Valley Malbec rounds out the blend with plush mid-palate richness, layering in blueberry compote, violet, and a hint of mocha. Fine-grained tannins frame the wine, while notes of cedar, baking spice, and a touch of dried sage linger through a long, balanced finish.

Approachable now, yet with the backbone to evolve beautifully over the next several years.

Our 2023 wine vintage is being hailed as exceptional, potentially one of the best in recent memory, due to a combination of a long, cool growing season and ideal weather conditions allowing grapes to ripen slowly in balanced conditions. This resulted in plush, concentrated flavors, deep color, freshness, and strong tannic structure—ideal for long-lived wines.

The idea behind Amuse is simple: take our California-grown Bordeaux varieties and step outside the traditional blending rules of Bordeaux. This vintage brings together Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, a pairing that’s bold, approachable and distinctly American in character.

Matured in French Oak for 22 months, 45% new, 40% one use and the balance neutral.
