Amuse Barrel Selection 2013

An amusing blend of Bordeaux and Rhone style reds.

Bill's method of developing his blended wines is to make the individual wines as stand-alone wines first and then, knowing their individual taste characteristics, he blends them together to create his multi-award-winning blends.

When all this wine making and blending is done there are still some barrels of these fine wines remaining to which one of his wine making colleagues recently referred as "an excess of riches."

Amused by this concept Bill decided to select certain barrels of these wines and make a non-typical blend inspired by legendary Australian winemaker Murray Tyrrell famous for his "Long Flat Red."

You are greeted by a nice ruby red color then taken to notes of cedar and mineral on the nose. Up front in the mouth, bright cherry and plum with slight herbal or touch of spice in the mid-pallet surrounded by the presence of rich, but not offensive tannin.

There is a nice, brightly-focused acidity throughout which tends to make the wine seem leaner and not the heavy red it first appeared but that's just not true as the wine will show with its medium body and then a satisfying, if fairly rapid, finish.

*Amuse Barrel Selection*, an enjoyable, everyday red wine blend made from a selection of exquisite wines and designed to simply quaff.
All our red wines benefit from aging in French Oak: 35% to 45% New; 30% to 40% One use; Balance in Two-plus use (Neutral).
Internally we refer to this wine as Amuse 2013 however this is a non-vintage wine (NV) comprising select wines from the excellent 2012 and 2013 vintages so no date appears on the label.
