Allure Meritage 2004

Meritage Allure is a seamless blend of the Nobel 5 Bordeaux varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc but with not one varietal dominating.

One can feel this wine unfolding, revealing layer upon layer of delicate flavor, then the surprise, taken into the mouth together with a complex, multi flavored food like lasagna, the whole experience sings.

The colour is a deep ruby-red with a brick-red rim. Powerful, elegant, and complex with a fine nose of red fruit, spice, and roasted aromas of cocoa, caramel, coffee, and vanilla. The wine starts out quite fresh and refined, with a silky mouth feel and great complexity. The tannic texture is fine-grained and yet intense from beginning to end, with a beautiful aftertaste in which Cabernet Franc's remarkable aromatic intensity comes through, despite its low proportion in the final blend.
Bud break in 2004 occurred early and the trend carried forward throughout the growing season. Heat spikes occurred in June and at scattered intervals throughout the summer season. Grapes completed veraison early and ripeness with well developed sugars was realized early. We held back as acid balance eventually caught up. Temperatures were steady into one of our earliest harvests. Grape quality was very good with a crop that was smaller than average.
French Oak for 22 months, approximately 40% new, 40% one use and the balance neutral.
