From our old-vine, dry-farmed estate comes a 2017 Zinfandel of quiet confidence—the sort of wine that seems to have learned patience from the vines themselves. These venerable plants, left to fend for their own water deep below the surface, produce fruit of uncommon depth and character.
The result is a Zinfandel that feels both generous and composed, with a natural richness that never tips into excess. It is, in every sense, a wine shaped more by time and place than by intervention—best enjoyed in good company, preferably with something hearty on the table and nowhere urgent to be.
Our Zinfandel shows most generously when poured, (not necessarily decanted), an hour or two before drinking. You can enjoy it with many meat and cheese dishes that are not overly seasoned. It pairs especially well with turkey, duck, ham and mild sausages.
Should you find yourselves with a few bottles next summer you scored the perfect accompaniment to an enjoyable afternoon on the porch or in the garden!
High winter rainfall delayed the start of vineyard work until soils dried in late spring. Once underway, growth was vigorous, with abundant canopies supporting a strong early season. A series of summer heat spikes culminated in a significant heat surge in early September. Earlier-ripening varieties were largely harvested before the hottest conditions, depending on vineyard location and exposure. Later-ripening varieties fared better, with time to recover.
