Keith Tulloch “The Kester” 2014

“The Kester” Shiraz has been a Keith Tulloch flagship Hunter red since its first Vintage in 1998.

“The Kester” is a 100% single vineyard wine from one of the most highly respected heritage-listed vineyards in the Hunter Valley. These vines are over 70 years of age, and consistently produce the highest quality, classic Hunter Valley fruit signatures.

This medium bodied Kester has wonderful drive and energy, revealing superb details on a long silken palate. The nature of this Vintage has generated beautifully expressive flavors – sweet black cherry, Morello cherry, and rich plum signatures; hints of olive tapenade and Mediterranean herbs, lavender and thyme, add persistence, becoming more majestic with time in the glass. Tannins are sublimely satiny and gentle, with fine French oak marrying seamlessly with the savory soft tannin from the grape. Each of these aromas and flavors reveal themselves in stages, each an extraordinary step in harmony and balance. The fantastic fruit drive and youthful color of this release point to potential for aging another 10 years, however the silky smooth tannin make this an excellent wine to drink now.
Keith Tulloch is a fourth generation Hunter Valley Winemaker, so the soils of Pokolbin and the wines of the Hunter Valley run deep in his blood. Keith also had vintage experience with Paul Jaboulet in the Rhone Valley of France, observing the winemaking techniques behind the famous *“La Chapelle”*.
