Sultry Cabernet Franc 2014
Few varieties on Earth are as recognizable as Cabernet Franc with its fine texture, its mid-level depth and pungency but there are very few bottled as single varietals as we have done with Sultry.
Originally planned to use in our classic Bordeaux blends Sultry is subtle and fascinating. This heady, seductive wine obviously deserved to be bottled as a single varietal and is a great addition to our Icon Wine Collection.
On its own it's a wine with a powerful linear flavor profile but with a tender side too. Anyone who loves Cabernet Franc or a beautiful bouquet will treasure this wine.
Sultry starts with an inviting light garnet color, almost showing blue-purple in color. The nose is stunning! It has style and an abundance of sultry elegance presented in a seductive fashion with an exotic roasted nut and dark fruit character and then comes that familiar sultry velvet nose when sweet caramel and cranberry combine with a touch of licorice and spice in an intoxicating aroma with just a hint of floral scents reminiscent of lavender and violets.
In the mouth Sultry is full and rich with its linear berry and plum flavor. Sharp in expression with a firmly structured character and spirit giving an indication of the need for bottle age and soft decanting.
Sultry finishes with a very light black cherry flavor, full, rich and satisfying and just to make things interesting, a hint of herbal and mineral notes that add a beautiful complexity to its profile.
A drop dead gorgeous wine with amazing intensity and purity of aromas Sultry is a fine-toned, red-fruited wine built on poise, not power.
Sultry drinks well now with a little decanting, but with its fantastic acidity and structure, this wine will turn into a masterpiece with a few years in the cellar so order at least three bottles, then you can try it in its youth, and later explore the wine as it matures over the coming years.

The Cabernet Franc grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel fermentation tanks and upon completion of alcoholic fermentation, the wine id drawn off into our fine wine tanks where malolactic fermentation, takes place before the wine is transferred into barrels. The ageing phase commences in the cellar and takes 20 months during which the cellar master racks the wines as required to clarify them naturally. No fining agents are used so the wines remain vegan.
French Oak for 22 months, approximately 40% new, 40% one use and the balance neutral.
