The Schubert Theorem 2010

The Schubert Theorem is 100% Shiraz sourced from the Schubert Vineyard in the Barossa Valley of South Australia.

Made by legendary Barossa Winemaker Dan Standish who, along with Bill Williamson, subscribes to the same classic no-compromise school of winemaking, with infinitesimal attention to detail and a solid sense of place or terroir.

At first look this wine shows an incredible super saturation of impenetrable black purple color which clings to the sides of the glass. On the nose, wonderful aromas of ripe blackberry, dark plum and licorice followed by a little confectionery ending with a spicy cedar. The palate is dense, opulent and ultra concentrated with flavors of ripe blackberry and licorice that fill every corner of the mouth followed by dark plum and spice. A velvet smooth but sturdy tannin structure provides an excellent framework to the abundance of fruit. This wine is truly a superb mouthful. Outstanding depth with exceptionally long and very persistent aftertaste of ripe blackberry, luscious dark plum, licorice and spice. **Robert Parker Score: 96/100.**
100% Shiraz sourced from various sections of the Schubert Vineyard in the Marananga area of the Barossa Valley of South Australia. Planted on its own roots between 1994 & 1999 *(no phylloxera in The Barossa)* at 12ft x 8ft spacing in deep red/brown earths with eroded protrusions of crystalline quartz jutting out of it. Vineyard elevation ranges between 272-296m above sea level.

The Schubert Theorem

The Schubert Theorem lies within a branch of mathematics known as *knot theory* which states that any knot can be uniquely decomposed as the connected sum of prime knots. Aptly named, individual sections or blocks of the Schubert family vineyard are harvested and fermented separately into distinct wines, then, taking the finest elements of each, they are reassembled into this single wine combining the best flavors, strength and power of all. This wine is presented as an elegant package giving the appearance that it has no labels whatsoever. Both the back and front label of this wine are totally black with embossed *theorem* notations on the shiny black label. The text is almost invisible to the naked eye unless viewed closely under bright light.
The Barossa Valley is an extremely important wine-producing region within South Australia. A prestigious and internationally renowned region, it is not only home to some of the oldest vineyards and wineries in Australia but produces some of its most recognizable and sought-after brands.
