Stagecoach Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

$245

Single-vineyard, single-varietal Napa Cabernet Sauvignon from our legendary block of volcanic soil in the famous "Stagecoach" vineyard high above Stags Leap in the Atlas Peak sub-appellation of Napa Valley.

Powerful mountain Cabernet with elegant aromas of the intense opulent fruit but presented in a graceful, dignified fashion. The palate has a similarly pure character, with a sleek composition and a chic style. Pure dark berry fruit, with rising tannins and Rutherford-dust in the midpalate, the character of this wine is structured and sophisticated. The tannin is exquisitely integrated and there is a great harmony throughout with good backbone of tannin, fine acids and a lovely balance showing substance and style. This wine defines fine Cabernet and will continue to improve in the bottle for years to come.
Stagecoach Vineyard defines "Napa Cabernet Sauvignon". Growing well above the fog line, our vineyard block KB3A is drenched in sunlight from daybreak to sunset producing fruit of opulence and density. The 2013 vintage exceeded our expectations on both quality and quantity. Rare as it was to have another fruitful year right after the record breaking 2012 crush, the quality across all varietals was also excellent. The overall vigor of this growing season was high which required more canopy management and more vigilance with regard to pest abatement. The harvest began and finished early, the timing of crop maturity being dictated entirely by our canopy management practices and manually reduced crop load. By addressing canopy management and green fruit harvesting early we were able to significantly reduce pest pressure and encourage early fruit ripening. The final wine quality in tank was excellent across the board for all varietals and appellations.
French Oak for 22 months, approximately 40% new, 40% one use and the balance neutral. This was followed by three years of cellar ageing in bottle prior to release.
