GOLD MEDAL winner in the Sonoma County Harvest Fair Wine Competition.
The wine is extremely food friendly and will enhance the pleasure of beef dishes. The soft fruit taste betrays its acid content which works well with grilled red meat and it is excellent with powerful dishes such as grilled steak with blue cheese, onions and mushrooms.
Soft toffee and honey combine on the palate with smooth structured mouth feel and velvety tannins as proof of the superior structure.
This wine is elegant in its complexity, with a multi dimensional structure and balance supporting the entire taste spectrum.
The growing season continued on the mild to cool side and harvest followed a traditional, even relaxed, pace. A brief period of heat spiked around Labor Day adding a boost of sugar development we needed to complement the excellent acid structure developed in the white varieties. Clusters were notably smaller in all varieties due to the dry season.
The valley floor crop, including all white varieties and much of the black varieties, was almost fully harvested when unseasonably cool and wet weather arrived the second week in October.
The higher elevation vineyards still had 50% of their crop on the vine, but the rain was not enough to penetrate to the root zone then Indian Summer returned with warm, clear days so we were able to finish harvest for another vintage of exceptional quality.
