Ravish Melange 2009

The next vintage to our GOLD MEDAL WINNER at the 2011 SF Chronicle Wine Competition, Mélange [ma-lan-ge] is a French term for a mixture where the composition can easily be identified.

This is a wine that, once tasted, ravishes your senses, overwhelming with emotion and a feeling of delight. Filled with wonder from this incredible soft yet powerful wine you are enchanted to take a mouthful of its concentrated flavors of spicy cranberry and raspberry. A touch of mineral in the center pallet and a finish of caramel coffee with just a hint of chocolate. C'est Magnifique!

This deep ruby tinted wine opens with complex aromatics of flowers, black raspberry, jammy plums and chocolate. Powerful, structured, intense, deep, structured and, mouth coating with densely packed ripe, raseberry and plums. Elegance, sensuality and refined power ending with a complex finish that lingers on your palate then evolves from dark spicy fruit to red berries.
This 2009 year provided lush, beautiful grapes for great wine. Late spring rains delayed irrigation needs and the warm spell in June helped curtail excessive canopy development. With only 4 days of 100°F plus reduced demand for water in a year when rainfall was little more than two-thirds of normal for the third year in a row, the timing of the precipitation was on the vine's side. Couple that with the lack of frost and the mild, relatively cool growing season, Mother Nature managed to have it all work in unison to give vines and grapes the best scenario possible.
