Ravish Melange 2023

Ravish, a Right Bank Bordeaux style Red Wine created from our California vineyards with a blend inspired by Château Petrus.

Compared with our Left Bank style Reserve Wines, Ravish is more voluptuous, plush, and Merlot-driven, with a signature blend of richness and elegance.

NOTE: In recent years Château Petrus has ceased blending and the wine is now 100% Merlot. We have made Ravish Mélange according to the historic composition of Petrus while our Amour Merlot is our homage to the modern day Petrus.

Ravish, a California blend inspired by the wines of Château Petrus.

  • Appearance: Deep, dense ruby to garnet, with remarkable depth of color that softens toward mahogany with age.

  • Nose: The nose is highly expressive and layered. Ripe plum and black cherry dominate, supported by blackberry, fig, and cassis. Nuances of truffle, mocha, licorice, violet, and earthy minerality emerge with air and maturation.

  • Palate: Silky yet powerful, with extraordinary concentration and purity of fruit. The Merlot-driven profile brings plush, velvety richness, balanced by freshness and fine, polished tannins. Notes of ripe dark fruit, chocolate, spice, and hints of iron and earth create depth and complexity.

  • Finish: Long, seamless, and persistent, unfolding layers of fruit, mineral, and savory nuance that linger for minutes.

  • Ageing Potential: Like Pétrus, Ravish in youth, shows opulence and density; with time, it evolves toward remarkable elegance, revealing truffle, leather, and subtle spice. Well-stored bottles can continue to evolve gracefully for 20+ years.

Our 2023 wine vintage is being hailed as exceptional, potentially one of the best in recent memory, due to a combination of a long, cool growing season and ideal weather conditions allowing grapes to ripen slowly in balanced conditions. This resulted in plush, concentrated flavors, deep color, freshness, and strong tannic structure—ideal for long-lived wines.

Our Merlot is planted on a unique valley of deep clay soils mixed with iron-rich subsoils. This terroir gives the wine its hallmark power, depth, and silky richness. The vines are 40+ years in age, contributing exceptional concentration and complexity.

Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand, with strict selection of berries to ensure only the highest quality fruit enters the cellar. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, preserving the purity of fruit and fine tannic structure.

Aging is conducted in new French oak barrels for 18–20 months, with regular racking to refine texture and integrate oak seamlessly. The result is a wine of extraordinary depth, marrying opulence with finesse. In youth, it shows density and ripe fruit richness; over decades, it evolves toward remarkable complexity, marked by truffle, spice, and earth.

Following fermentation, the wine was transferred into new French oak barrels where malolactic fermentation took place.

All of the barrels come from French cooperages with whom we have had an association for over twenty years. Selected from two French forests, the wood is air dried and coopered over a five-year production period and finished with a special “toasting” suited to the delicate characteristics of our wines.

Only 340 cases were produced and no allergens were used in the making of this wine. Our vineyards are farmed to the code of sustainable agriculture using traditional techniques, based on strict control of yields, manual harvests and numerous quality specific tasks that are carried out by hand throughout the year.

Little or no chemical fertilizers are used. Selection and planting of cover crops and their return to the soil provides additional organic nutrients allowing our vines to reach an advanced age and produce outstanding grapes.
