Embrace Grenache 2016

Grenache is great paired with braises and stews, long slow cooked roasts of pork or lamb that may even be a little bit fatty (shoulder of lamb and lamb shanks, for example). It suits daubes and stews with dark, winey sauces and has a particular affinity with paprika and pimenton.

Embrace can be served with milder curries like a rogan josh but not Indian curries. Good paired with sausage or flank steak and mashed potatoes, shepherd's pie and steak and kidney pie while its absence of tough tannins makes it a great match for simple cheeses.

Grenache, its like Pinot with a little touch of spice. Soft, full-bodied and easy-drinking, Embrace shows aromas of raspberry and strawberry supported by light earthy hints of white pepper.

In the mouth, a hint of the nice cranberry fruit with subtle light pepper and a persuasive, lightly textured tannin finish.

The spice and cranberry character makes it pleasing and lightly structured with a mouth feel that calls for more. A very nice red wine for summer with pork loin or chicken breast flavored with fruit garnishes, jams or flavored mustard.

The 2016 growing season got off to an early start with budbreak in February and generally moderate weather prevailing throughout summer. The lack of heat waves kept sugar levels and phenolic maturity in sync while periods of extreme heat came in late June and again in late July allowing the gradual accumulation of mature flavors through additional hang time.
