Angel Melange 2018
Angel Mélange is a limited production blended wine to honor our Louise Angels.
In March 2020 a news article reported a tour group of Americans testing positive for Covid-19 and quarantined at The Louise, a Barossa Valley Relais & Châteaux luxury hotel. The group was our 2020 Oz Odyssey travelers.
Unable to travel, our group worked with the hotel, declaring an emergency isolation, hand-in-hand with the local health authority.
Without regard to personal risk several of the hotel staff volunteered to stay in the hotel supporting our group during our isolation period.
While in isolation a fellow wine club member Warren Chandler painted the image of Mel, one of the hotel employees, all of whom will remain in our hearts forever.
We decided to create a special limited bottling with Mel's image on the label to honor our "Louise Angels". We send a big "Thank-You" to Warren and his wife Clarissa and to Mel Pfeiffer for the inspiration that produced this wine.
Just like Mel, this wine has a gentle nature but will easily step up to a complex situation. Try it with a three meat pizza or a fully loaded hamburger.
Cases produced = 50. No allergens were used in the making of this wine.
The 2018 season was seamless with heavenly hangtime and phenomenal phenolic development. February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating plentiful and even fruit set.
Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The relatively mild summer followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat created near-ideal conditions as the fruit developed flavor complexity, approaching maturity with gradual increases in sugar levels, reaching optimal balance of brix and pH levels at harvest.
French Oak for 22 months, approximately 40% new, 40% one use and the balance neutral.
