Amourette Chardonnay 2003

Estate fruit, aged in French Oak for 11 months.

Aside from the diligent vineyard work and the integrity of the traditional winemaking techniques, what makes Amourette so special?

It is the lean approach leading into a steely, vibrant core in the very center and then ending with incredible balance and harmony.

The result is finesse and breeding that places it directly within the famous Montrachet style, wonderful now but with the correct balance of elements that allows aging for several years consequently developing into a wine of even greater complexity.

Its 2021 and we have several cases of 2003 Amourette that have been stored away now for 18 years. So what are they like? The color is dark gold like honey. The nose is likely better bypassed and the flavor is that of dried apricot with a hind on non-sweet butterscotch caramel and ginger marmalade and toasted baking spices. As for pairing, consider almond tart, bananas foster with vanilla ice cream or custard. It may need something more savory such as Roquefort or Livarot cheese and foie gras or terrine with caramelized onions.
