Amour Merlot 2014

Perfect ruby color, purity and precision, the wine is energetic and alive in the mouth leaving no doubt why this estate grown, single-vineyard Merlot has repeatedly won gold medals.

This Merlot is a perfect ruby color.

Black fruit on the nose but softened with a rose petal nuance.

In the mouth it is exotic and complex with a hint of middle eastern spices on the tong then and licorice in the mid plate finishing with faint hints of dried cherries and chocolate-covered raisins.

Be warned - this is not a wine you stop enjoying after just one glass.

The work done in the vineyard is fastidious - severe pruning, regular discing to fine tune the soil, de-leafing, crop-thinning and manicuring the clusters following verasion to allow perfect ripening of the fruit.

The grapes are manually harvested in one early morning pass and sorted. Fermentation is carried out gently, in temperature-controlled 5-ton stainless steel tanks then this pure Merlot is aged in French oak barrels for 22 months.

All of the barrels come from French cooperages with whom we have had an association for over twenty years. Selected from two French forests, the wood is air dried and coopered over a five-year production period and finished with a special “toasting” suited to the delicate characteristics of our wines.
